HAND CRAFTED STONEWARE ... HEIRLOOM QUALITY PIECES MEANT FOR EVERYDAY USE

DETAILS 02.jpg

The Idea

I come from a long line of fabulous crafters. My maternal grandmother, Addie LeMay Owen, was born in 1896. She supported her family of eight children as the pastry chef at Courtland Air Force Base in Alabama. She was also an incredible crochet artist. My mother is her youngest daughter who learned well her artistry in the kitchen and home. Unfortunately, I did not inherit their culinary or homemaking skills. I can, however, design and create the clay vessels to prepare and hold the creations of others. I pay homage to my maternal ancestors by incorporating their craft into mine through limited Collections. It feels right to share their artistry with the world and it’s an honor to remember their presence each time we make shared art.

Style & Quality

Organic works of original design, hand crafted to serve, all of my pottery is made using food safe materials. Each piece is heirloom quality, meant for everyday use.

Styles offered usually fall under three general types: lace textures (Lace Ware), hand carved or drawn designs (Doodle Ware), or smooth surface (Smooth Ware). Occasionally I will use objects from nature or bisque stamps I have carved.

The Lace Ware category includes Limited Collections from ancestral hand crafted lace pieces. The Doodle Ware line has just been introduced (2020) and has its first Collection, Camellia Mandala. I am developing certain pieces within each collection to provide a variety of serving and bakeware pieces that work beautifully together while emphasizing their unique, hand made quality.

Each piece is dishwasher safe and can be microwaved or put in the oven. Please be aware that extreme and sudden temperature shocks can cause breaks in stoneware. I advise not moving something directly from the refrigerator to the microwave or oven. Make sure that the dish is room temperature before heating or microwaving.

My bakeware is made with thermal shock resistant clay to protect the integrity of your dish. It is still best practice with hand crafted stoneware to preheat the dish with the oven, especially if cooking at high temperatures.

100% Handmade

I’m a one woman shop located in north-central Alabama. Each uniquely designed piece is slowly and purposefully made by hand from flat slabs of clay. My clays are sourced from the Ohio Valley region. Working with clay keeps me grounded, quite literally in the earth, and in the satisfaction of creating works that speak to and serve others. What the clay and I offer is our agreement on what will be and we are grateful that you may find the beauty in our collaboration.
